A snapshot of highlights from our recent work includes advising on the delivery of the 36th America’s Cup, advising Watercare on the construction of the Central Interceptor, advising on Microsoft's new data centres in NZ, as well as advising the Ministry for the Environment on the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-track Consenting) Act 2020.

Our banking and finance practice is a leader in its field. We’ve advised on some of the market’s most complex and significant financing transactions, and pride ourselves on driving successful outcomes for our clients. We regularly act for major financial institutions, investment banks, leading listed and unlisted companies, sponsors, private equity houses, fund managers, mezzanine lenders, trustee companies, and local government bodies.

Recent work has included advising the Government on its flagship Infrastructure Funding & Finance programme, advising ASB on an innovative sustainability linked loan for Hawkes Bay Airport, and advising BNZ on funding provided to Electric Kiwi (the Debt Deal of the Year at the 2021 INFINZ awards). Our team also work with a number of international and local fintech companies bringing new products and services to the NZ market.

Our large corporate and commercial group has an extensive track record, ranging from everyday deals to many of the landmark transactions in New Zealand’s corporate history. Our expertise also includes leading teams in areas such as intellectual property, technology, and sports, entertainment & events law.

We acted on over NZ$8 billion of mergers and acquisitions in 2021, including advising a2 Milk on the $385m acquisition of a 75% interest in Mataura Valley Milk, and assisting Adamantem, the private equity owner of Heritage Lifecare, with the sale of its $291m aged care property portfolio to Centuria Capital Group. Other recent major projects include helping The NZ Olympic Committee and Paralympics NZ on commercial aspects of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, and advising on the development of New Zealand’s largest solar farm.

We have the leading commercial litigation practice in New Zealand. Our commercial litigation department regularly conducts significant and large-scale cases in all New Zealand courts, and has a reputation for adopting a pragmatic approach to litigation.

Recent major litigation work has included advising the FMA on its investigation into potential misconduct by CBL and its directors and advising Waikato DHB on a high-profile and ground-breaking data protection matter. Our employment lawyers have been busy helping clients navigate through issues created by Covid-19, and our public law team has worked with Auckland Council on a number of high profile judicial reviews.

Recent work includes helping Watercare secure the future supply for Auckland’s drinking water needs and assisting Microsoft in developing its new data centres in NZ. Major infrastructure projects including advising on the construction of the $1.2bn Central Interceptor, a super-sized wastewater tunnel under Auckland and the consenting and property aspects of Auckland’s $700 million Eastern Busway Project.
